“Lamia” continues our endeavors of bringing mythical creatures to life and is deviousMind’s contribution to 2013′s Halloween round of Fantasy Gacha Carnival running October 1st to 31st.

This time we’ll take a closer look at the majestic sea snakes most commonly known as nagas or lamiae.

Each round of gameplay rewards you with one random color and pattern. !dM “Lamia” comes in 8 different colors (6 common, 2 rares) and 3 different patterns for each – in total, the GACHA has 24 possible combinations for you to win (18 commons and 6 rares).

The common colors are sunny **CITRINE**, warm orange-red **CARNELIAN**, shades of lilac **AMETHYST**, deep blue **LAPIS**, brilliant green **PERIDOT** and earthy green-orange sprinkled **EPIDOTE**. The rare colors are black **ONYX** and white **PEARL**.

A little bit of History:

———————–

In greek mythology, Lamia is a mistress of the god Zeus, causing Zeus’ jealous wife Hera to transform her into a monster with a serpent’s tail below the waist. Later traditions referred to many lamiae; these were folkloric monsters similar to vampires and succubi that seduced young men and then fed on their blood.

In Hinduism and Buddhism, nagas are a race of semidivine serpent creatures. Usually depicted as human above the waist and snake below, Nagas can change shape to appear fully human or snake. According to legend, Nagas lived on earth at first, but their numbers became so great that the god Brahma sent them to live under the sea. They reside in magnificent jeweled palaces and rule as kings at the bottom of rivers and lakes and in the underground realm. They are known for their strength, supernatural wisdom, and charisma, being immortal and potentially dangerous. Some are demons; others seem friendly and are worshiped as gods.

In some areas, Nagas are seen as nature spirits living in snake form, who tend to be very curious and may take human form. They are considered the protectors of springs, wells and rivers, and guardians of treasure (both material and spiritual). According to traditions n?gas are only malevolent to humans when they have been mistreated. They are susceptible to mankind’s disrespectful actions in relation to the environment. They bring rain, and thus fertility, and stories involving them are part of contemporary cultural traditions. They are also thought to bring disasters such as floods and drought.

CONTENT and DETAILED INFORMATION

=====================================

“Lamia” includes a rigged mesh naga tail with sidefins and unrigged basic belt, along with lower body alpha layer and additional shoe platform if you’re sinking in the floor. Side fins are separate attachments so you can either leave them completely, or wear instead the rare NagaQueen Fins if you were lucky to win them from our corresponding accessories gacha.

The tail is rigged in a way to work with most regular AOs, as long as they aren’t over-the-top fidgety or doing a lot of extremes. So with your standard AO walk, the tail will give a slithering feel to it and look alive and non-static.

RIGGED MESH and SIZE MENU:

—————–

Rigged mesh cannot be adjusted in size or position on an avatar. The tail comes with a menu to offer 2 sizes for shorter and taller avatars. You can either right-click the mesh and choose “touch” in your viewer context menu, or, if you’re using Firestorm viewer, right-click “touch” directly from your inventory when wearing the tail (we added a picture w/ screenshot in the box).

If changing the tail option through menu alone won’t help and leaves your tail still sunk into the floor, please wear included shoe platforms to offset the avatar, or adjust Z-offset through hover setting in “Appearance > Editing Shape > Body > Hover”. If you prefer to stay with a low overall height, please adjust your shape and shorten hips/torso to bring the tail up.

If you can’t see the mesh, it’s time to update your SL viewer.

RESIZE & STRETCH:

——————

The belt is unrigged and comes with resize&stretch menu to encompass the traditionally very bejeweled appearance of nagas and, as nice side effect, help hide possible gaps and shape issues that usually come when mesh meets avatar.

Please always adjust the placement of the prims on your avatar first before resizing, as the attachment position highly depends on the height of your shape, length of arms/legs, etc., so items attach for everybody slightly different (higher or lower, sometimes a little rotating forward/backwards will get the job done too!). In most cases there isn’t even resizing required. :)

TEXTURES:

———–

Lamia supports the new materials and looks both stunning with regular textures as well as SL’s new7 materials enabled!

All textures and meshes for this set are original designs and have been created by Chandra Meehan for (*chanimations and deviousMind – if you find them used by anybody else not connected to us, please help protect original content in SL and immediately inform us!

Thank you very much in advance!
