Fibromyalgia is “a complex chronic pain disorder. While it occurs most often in women, it strikes men and children, and all ethnic backgrounds. For those with severe symptoms, fibromyalgia (FM) can be extremely debilitating and interfere with basic daily activities.”
This is a disorder that has been something I had never heard of, let alone paid any attention to, until recently when it was pushed to the front of my mind as I was informed that 3 people I know, including my sister, have been diagnosed as Fibromyalgia sufferers.
May 12th is Fibromyalgia Awareness Day, and this weekend, Fibro Aware – a non-profit organisation in SL that aims to educate people about the disorder – is hosting Fibromyalgia Awareness Day Fair 2012 starting today until Sunday. This event is to raise awareness, and there will be tons of information available to read about the disorder.
A small handful of designers are taking part in the fair. Each store has a small booth, they are easy to spot as they have bright purple covers, these booths will not only have a selection of their wares, there will also be a freebie available from each participating store to spread the awareness.
Participating stores include;
❂ CONCRETE FLOWERS ❂ KOSH ❂ Glorious Insanity ❂ Quintessential ❂ SAKIDE ❂ [Virtual/Insanity] ❂ Insatiable Fashions ❂ EMBODY
Even if you just go for the freebies, items will have details within about the disorder, but there will be other events going on all the time, so this is one event I would recommend you check out!
